I belong to the Phoenix Camera Club in Holsworth and I was persuaded to enter the photo below in one of their contests – portrait photography.
I took the photo in August 2010 during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I was walking along the Royal Mile looking for possible photos when I spotted this guy sitting on a stool. When I asked if I might have a photo, he stood up and struck this wonderful pose.
I used the shot once before in a general club exhibit. It introduced me to the art and practice of matting and framing. Using a borrowed matting kit, I cursed and sweated through a winter afternoon until I got a mat that seemed towork.
Anyhow, coming at this time, the prize, Highly Comended, is a real boost. The judge liked both the lines and the clarity. I can’t say much of the honor is down to me because I just shot the photo. The actor did all the work, but I am still quite happy. I like the photo and I love this kind of shooting.
